We had a great time and finished with some great results at the USAT Club Championships
Last weekend, I traveled with my club, the Village Tri Team, to the USAT Club Championships just outside of Las Vegas. We had a great time and finished with some great results! The event started with a nice 1500 meter swim in Lake Mead. After a challenging swim (the lake was beginning to get rough) we had a rigorous 40K mountainous bike and a 10K desert trail run.
Approaching the race start I looked around and saw a few of the top pros in the sport, which was nothing unusual for a race of this magnitude. After a strong swim I hopped on my bike and quickly realized I had good legs and that it would be a fantastic day. I quickly passed André Yastebrov and Viktor Zemestev both of whom hail from the Ukraine and are on Team Timex.
About a mile later, I passed Ian Pyott of Switzerland and triathlon legend Wes Hobson of the USA. As I powered my way up the hills around Lake Mead I knew I was increasing my gap and was pleasantly surprised to have a 3 minute lead by the bike to run transition! I ran solid and comfortably to hold my lead at the finish. I was very happy with this result and it has given me lots of confidence heading into the final races of the season. My swimming has improved a lot, and my bike riding is proving to be better than ever. As a team, our Village Tri Team did very well placing a close second in our category. Congratulations to the 25+ who made the trip!
See you at the races,
Lewis Elliot
