Coaching: Sharing the knowledge

2008 is over, lots of good, some bad, but I'll take it! Lately I've been working through some minor injuries and have started a focused swim/run block, which is leading me in the right direction. I have been able to run on a consistent basis now for three weeks, and I'm excited to compete in some events in the near future. First, on Thanksgiving Day my older brother Porter and I will celebrate his 30th Birthday with the Huffin' for Stuffin' 10k in Bozeman, Montana. It's predicted to be 15 degrees and snowing, at 5000 feet, exciting! There's also a 5k if you happen to be in the area and don't want to "go the distance". After this, I'll get more serious and I plan on competing in the Fiesta Bowl Half Marathon in Scottsdale on December 14th. Along with some serious skiing mixed in, this should lead me into fantastic form for the PF Chang's Rock n Roll Half Marathon come mid-January. At this point, it's all just a theory but I have a good feeling these three events should work out! Just this morning, we had a great track workout with the Gainey/Tri-Scottsdale group and I just ran another 5 miles nice and easy. To be uninjured, ohhhhhhh what a feeling!!!!

For 2009, I'm also going to add another facet to my triathlon repertoire. Over the last few years I've been helping a couple of athletes get to the "next level" in triathlon and I'm pretty excited about what they have been able to accomplish. I like to keep telling myself I'm a young up-and-comer, but I'm now 28 and have been a pro triathlete for a whopping 8 full years now! I've had some fantastic success, as well as some humbling defeats along the way. Many mistakes I've made can probably be avoided by other triathletes and perhaps I can share a few new ideas that also seem to work. I think it's time I take on a few select athletes to coach/consult with and try to share some of my acquired racing knowledge to help them get to their next level. I think I have a unique perspective as I'm a racer and have done most of the events out there, as well as used the equipment and consistently attempted to race at the highest level. My goal is to become the most approachable pro in the pack, and coaching is one way to help with that. Aside from the approachability aspect, it is also important for me to become more part of the local Arizona triathlon community, something that's been so incredibly supportive toward me. If you happen to be interested in my 2009 triathlon coaching services, don't hesitate to send me an e-mail at LewisElliot@hotmail.com as I would be glad to discuss working with you.

That's about all for now, this time of year is mostly spent focusing on the biz-side of triathlon. Aside from the coaching business, I'm also on a sponsor hunt working out new ideas and details for the 2009 racing season. I'll keep everyone posted on how that goes as well! Thanks for reading, see everybody out at PF Chang's, or Fiesta Bowl Half, or Huffin' for Stuffin'.

Cheers,
Lewis
