First tri of the year
This weekend will be my first triathlon of the year! I've been swimming a lot this winter and my times in the pool have gotten a lot faster, I'm hoping it translates into the open water. I have my new X-terra Vendetta wetsuit which fits like a glove, though I haven't done a swim in it yet. My old wetsuit was covered in repair-glue and was over 5 years old, technology has come a long way since then. Recently on slowtwitch.com forums Tucson resident and top age-grouper Brian Stover (aka. DesertDude) did a very scientific wetsuit "test-off" comparing all the top brands. The X-terra pretty much tied with the the BlueSeventy Helix for the fastest suit in the test. The cool thing is, the X-terra used in the study was the older (and much slower) Vector Pro, not the Vendetta as he wasn't able to get one in time for the test. The writing's on the wall, I'm just hoping I can do my new Vendetta justice! I did that Liftime indoor swim in the new X-terra Velocity suit and I went a lot faster, I'm hoping for similar gains in my Vendetta wetsuit!
One other new sponsor I'm beyond excited about are a shoe company called Spira. These shoes are amazing and they actually have a very light spring in them. I don't feel the shoes spring me in the "boi-ing" sense but I do feel substantially less impact when running in them. Triathletes always being on the verge of injury could benefit in a major way from these shoes. Running on cement, feels like running on a padded track, and if anything they feel slightly "springier" than regular running shoes. I've been training in the Del Sol model which are a fairly lightweight trainer, and I did some of my best speed runs (in no speed shape to speak of!) at the Desert Duathlon in the Spira Stinger Elite racing flat. Normally I won't pitch a product unless I think incredibly highly of it, and that's how I'm feeling about Spira right now! One other thing, they're pretty reasonably priced and if you put in the code: LewisElliot when ordering off the www.SpiraFootwear.com website you will save 15% off listed price!
That's about all I have for now, I'll write up a report after my triathlon this weekend. I'm pretty excited to finally get to do a little racing!
See you out there,
Lewis
