Tucson Triathlon this weekend
This weekend Blair and I are heading down to the Tucson Triathlon at the University of Arizona. This is a sprint triathlon with an 825 yard swim, 12 mile bike, and a 5k run. I've done it a few times and my best result ever was around 53 minutes. Chris Lieto holds the course record with a time a shade under 51 minutes that he did back in 2007. If the conditions are good and I could get under 53 minutes I would be excited, as it would show that I'm making good progress!
This will be Blair's first serious triathlon. Blair is my younger brother and has quite a bit more athletic talent than I do, so me helping him get faster is a little bit of a double-edged-sword... Do I really want him beating me? sure
Yesterday Preston Miller, Marc Rubin, and I were invited to the Annual Susan G. Komen Luncheon. We were surprised when we won the Founder's Award for our work with Tri For the Cure raising over $75,000 last year. It was a pretty cool moment and we even were congratulated by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer! She said she is considering coming out and doing Tri For The Cure AZ 2010! How cool?!!!
The Tri For The Cure AZ is being held April 19th this year. Any ladies out there who haven't signed up, get on it quickly as our registrations are ahead of last year and the race being in a pool we have limited space. For the guys, sorry, no racing but we can always use more fans, spectators, and volunteers! This is a great even to do as a first tri, if you're on the fence let this be your little nudge to get out there and race while supporting such a fantastic cause!
Hopefully I'll have a good update after the race on Sunday, I'm loving these shorter events! If it's not too windy I hope to be close to reaching Chris Lieto's record, though I do believe for the moment it's a little out of reach.
Thanks to everyone out there who works/helps/races Tri For The Cure, through your help anything is possible.
Cheers,
Lewis
