Out of Tucson and off to California
Just a really quick update as it's Thursday morning and I'm about to hit the road for the California Ironman 70.3 race this Saturday...
The Tucson Tri went fantastic last weekend, I trained hard on Saturday (4 hours) and because of this I felt like I was missing that "little something" the whole Sunday morning race. Considering this, I am quite happy with a workman-like effort to come home in 53:05.
During the cycling portion of the race somebody had fallen and so they were stopping cyclists at one intersection, I ended up having to put my foot down and wait a few seconds. This made me too excited and right after I got riding again I probably pushed a little too hard. The whole thing probably only cost me 25-30 seconds but of course it always seems like more when you're "on the clock".
I think, except for Lieto's incredible day two years ago this time is among the best ever at this race. I think Jimmy Ricatello went a little quicker once, but many greats have given it a go including Mike Pigg, US Olympians, and various national team athletes from different countries. I'm pretty excited that it shows my form is coming and my overall level is decent!
As I mentioned above, Saturday is California 70.3, this year the field is as stacked as ever. I plan on having a great race as this will be my 8th year in a row doing this event! For those who want to track it, there will most likely be live updates on www.IronmanLive.com Stay tuned, thanks for reading.
Cheers,
Lewis
