Heading home for a visit
Quick update, I'm headed to Montana next week to visit my dad and older brother Porter. It really is a great time of year to be up there and I figured it was time.
I competed in the Rock n Roll Chicago Half Marathon with PF Chang's last week. I finished in 1:12, not exactly what I was looking for but still a pretty decent time. I did "train through" this event and therefor didn't have a lot of pop in the legs. I went out at 1:07 pace (about 5:00 minute mile) and stayed close to it through mile five or six, then just began to fall apart. My goal is to go 1:07 in one of these half's this year, and I think it's doable as I went 1:10 in Seattle on a fairly slow course without any training!
I saw the other day the time standards for the 2012 Olympic Trials Marathon have been set. I don't plan on competing in the Olympic Marathon, but I do plan on trying to reach the 1:05 half marathon time required to compete at the trials. I think this would be a fun pursuit and something to compliment my triathlon training, especially with the help I'm receiving from PF Chang's and Tri-Scottsdale. Of course not this year, the goal this year is 1:07, but eventually (in the next 24 months) it would be cool to get down to a 1:05.
The next race on my schedule is the Accenture Chicago Triathlon. This is the biggest event in the world (9,000 triathletes) and I really look forward to competing there. I'm training hard right up until I leave and with a little luck maybe I'll pull something off out in the windy city.
Sponsorship-wise I'm now working with Steve Driscoll over at Airpark Bikes in Scottsdale. I'll be riding exclusively Airpark Bicycles for the next year and hopefully beyond. My new Argon 18 E-114 is set to arrive next week. It's set up with Hed wheels, SRAM Red, the new R2C levers, and Zipp vumachrono cranks! I'm so excited to be working with Steve and Airpark and everyone knows they offer fantastic deals!
My apologies for being lazy with updates, I've been doing a lot of twitter and facebook, I would love for anyone interested to go follow me there as well!
Train hard,
Lewis
